Nov 27th Julia, Chocolate and the Priests
As most of everyone reading this will know, back in the day I worked at a chocolate store down in California. We handmade all of the chocolates by hand. It was my favorite job of all time, and maybe still is. It also left me with a compulsion to visit small chocolatiers and to chat tempering and butterfat percentages. Yum!
Today, Julia and I headed out to a small fudge/ chocolate store in Amity which is about 50 miles south of our house. It's run by Brigittine priests and is at http://www.brigittine.org/
Anyway, we walk in, and are chatting fudge with the nice woman at the counter. A priest walks in- kind of unexpected in a chocolate store- and stops by me and Julia as we're the only customers. He looks at Julia, asks her full name, and blesses her with a pretty elaborate blessing. It was very shocking given the setting for some reason, but also so completely perfect.
For my daughter to receive her first individual blessing in the middle of a chocolate store- how can it be more perfect?
So, of course, I had to go to the chapel and get a bit misty eyed over the strange synergy of life. But not before buying some truffles!
